Call for Abstracts  Due 23 December 2018

Organized for the second time, the International Society of Participatory
Mapping (ISPM) http://pmappingsociety.org conference brings together
scholars, planners and practitioners working with participatory mapping and
spatial participatory methods. Hosted by Aalto University in Finland, the
2019 conference provides a platform for presenting recent advances within
the field of participatory mapping and initiating discussion on the current
state and future directions of the research.

Rapidly increasing applications of participatory mapping methods within and
beyond academia challenge the community to enhance transdisciplinary
collaboration and to advance the circulation of good practice. With the
theme “Let the people map”, the ISPM 2019 conference invites us to approach
these questions with a special focus on novel ways of facilitating dialog
between participatory mapping researchers and practitioners.

ISPM is pleased to invite authors to submit abstracts for oral
presentations, to be delivered at the ISPM conference 2019 – Espoo,
Finland: Let the People Map. The abstract submission period is from 22nd of
October until 23rd of December.

The conference will be held in Espoo, Finland from 17-19 June 2019. The
conference will revolve around following themes related to the field of
participatory mapping, and will feature prominent experts presenting upon
critical issues. The main themes of the conference include:

  • Participatory mapping in enhancing the dialog between research and
    practice
  • Participatory mapping in research on health and well-being
  • Mapping landscape values and development preferences in areas under
    transition
  • Participatory mapping in marine and coastal planning processes
  • Participatory mapping in special age groups (children, elderly)
  • Participatory mapping in the global south: land use planning and
    natural resource management
  • Participatory mapping outside academia – examples from practice
  • Use of web-based tools for participation in spatial planning
  • Participatory mapping methodologies: participatory mapping
    technologies and analytics

However, other research fitting the scope of the conference but not
